Questions detailers ask about marketing

Straight answers for detailing and car wash owners on reviews, Google Ads, video, deposits, fleet accounts, the benchmark data and the free 14-day trial.

How many Google reviews does a detail shop need?

Enough to beat the three shops you appear beside. Across 73,083 detailing and car wash listings the median is 24 reviews and 37.2% sit under 10. In a real metro the shops holding the map pack are past 100, which only 28.4% of shops reach. A working target is one review per completed vehicle day, asked for at handover with the customer standing next to the car. The reviews guide has the script.

Everyone in my area has 5.0 stars. Does rating matter?

Less than you think. 43.9% of listings in the dataset show a perfect 5.0, mostly because they have six reviews. The average is 4.6 and 72.1% are at 4.5 or above, so a high rating is table stakes. Count and recency are the separators. A shop at 4.8 with 240 reviews outranks and outsells a 5.0 with 9.

What does a detailing lead cost on Google Ads?

Usually $18 to $60 per lead for interior and full details, and $45 to $120 for ceramic coating and paint correction searches, which are more expensive and worth far more. Shops that lose money almost always run broad match on "car wash near me" with no negative keywords, which buys clicks from people looking for a $12 tunnel. Details in the Google Ads guide.

Should I be mobile or take a shop?

That is a business question, but it changes your marketing. Mobile shops rank on a service-area profile with no pin, so reviews and website content carry more weight and radius targeting matters more. Fixed locations get map-pack visibility, drive-by traffic, and can sell memberships. The Google profile guide covers how to set up each one.

My before-and-after videos get views but no bookings. Why?

Because the view is entertainment and the booking needs a next step. Reels and TikToks that convert name the vehicle, the service, the town and the price band inside the first six seconds, and end on a booking link rather than "DM for a quote". The social ads guide breaks down the formats that produce actual appointments.

Do I need a website if I have a Google profile?

The data says it matters. 34.3% of shops list no website. Those without a site have a median of 5 reviews; those with one have 51. Serious operators tend to do both, so this is correlation, not proof. But the site is where a coating buyer checks your work, where Google confirms what you do, and where the booking with a deposit happens. See the website guide.

How do I stop no-shows?

Take a deposit at booking. A $50 deposit applied to the ticket removes most tire-kickers and gives you a reason to send a reminder that gets read. Shops that switch from "text me to book" to online booking with a card typically cut no-shows from around one in five to under one in twenty. Covered in the pricing and quoting guide.

How do I get dealership or fleet accounts?

By calling, not by advertising. Dealers and fleets do not search Google for a detailer; they use whoever walked in with a price sheet and did a clean demo car. Build a one-page rate sheet with per-unit pricing and turnaround time, and work the used-car managers weekly. The seasonality guide explains why this is what carries you through January.

How do I show up when someone asks ChatGPT for a detailer?

The answer engines lean on the same signals Google does plus clear, readable text. A complete profile, matching name and address everywhere, service and city pages written in plain sentences, prices stated as ranges, and reviews that name the actual job. The AI search guide walks it step by step.

Is the benchmark data trustworthy?

It is public data collected at scale, so treat it as accurate to within a point or two, not to the decimal. Listings are deduplicated by Google place ID and refreshed monthly. Google does not publish this, which is why we compute it. The method is on the about page.

Where does the benchmark data come from?

Public Google Business Profile listings found through Google Maps searches for detailing services, car washes, self-service washes and mobile wash operators in every state. Only public business fields are stored. No reviewer names and no personal data.

What is included in the free 14-day trial?

Any one service we run, or several: Google Ads management, Meta and TikTok ads, AI search optimization, local SEO and Google profile work, website design with online booking, social media management, review generation, missed-call text-back and follow-up, email and SMS campaigns, bookkeeping, and cold-call appointment setting for fleet and dealer work. Setup, management and reporting are included. Ad spend paid to Google or Meta, if you choose to run ads, is yours.

What happens after 14 days?

You decide. Keep it at the monthly price quoted before the trial started, switch to a different service, or stop. Nothing renews on its own and nothing is charged during the trial.

Do I need a credit card, and how fast can it start?

No card. We ask for access to the accounts involved and about 20 minutes for a setup call. Most services are live within 48 hours of that call. Ads need your ad account and billing in place first, and a website with online booking takes roughly a week to first draft. Start on the free trial page.
